ABOUT US

As previously said in the introduction page my name is Charlotte Rayner.

I have for the last twenty or so years worked with children and young people and I love the work I do. Within my roles I have worked in nurseries, delivered playschemes (private and open access), I have been a play specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, worked with children at risk and for the last nine years I have developed and managed a local authority play team. I have a good reputation.

This I am still doing but on a commissioned contract with the Local authority rather than an employment contract. This enabled me to go part-time to concentrate on developing the day nursery and the holiday schemes at Bailiff Bridge.

My work and the passion I have for play enables me to link in with local and national agencies to develop play services and play provision across local communities. I attend conferences and workshops to gain the up to date research on how play can effect children’s development and how children can be damaged if they are play deprived.

I attended Leeds Metropolitan University and gained a Higher Diploma in Playwork Studies and honors degree in Professional Play work Studies. I still worked on evenings and weekends to enable me to attend the course, this again included working with children in local communities.

Since University I have (whilst at work) gone on to complete various training courses to encourage children’s play within a safe environment. This is for children of all ages and is mainly targeted at outdoor, adventurous play opportunities and environmental activities.

I have also completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). This qualifies me to teach, with this I have developed a range of specialists courses for the people in the childcare, play work field. (see web page)

My passion for allowing children to be children is one reason I decided to develop a day nursery which offered alternative activities and opportunities. Children need to have fun, make mistakes and learn from them. They need to have freedom to make choices and whilst looking at nurseries for my son, I was struggling to find the quality that I wanted and the love of working with children; I wanted it to be more than a job for the staff involved. So here I am continuing to develop Organised Chaos providing a service to children that has passion, love, care and honesty.

In my spare time I spend as much time as I can with my husband and son, I am a member of Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, I sometimes take part in triathlons, depending on the time I have. I completed an Iron man in honor of my sister in-law who died of cancer, raising money for cancer research. I love been busy and enjoy my girlie weekends away!
